Altobridge Sees New Investments to Boost Data-at-the-Edge

February 27, 2013

By Shankar Pandiath, TMCnet Contributor

A provider of mobile data and voice wireless networks, Altobridge, recently revealed that Intel Capital (News - Alert) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) has made a dramatic investment of $7.8 million in the company, to boost the deployment of its advanced mobile data optimization solution, Data-at-the-edge in rural and urban markets.

Data-at-the-Edge (DatE) is touted as being a mobile data optimization solution that seamlessly optimizes the process of data delivery for the mobile network operators. It offers advanced content-positioning and is self-learning platform that allows mobile network operators to efficiently reduce costs in data transmission, while significantly improving the quality of experience for the end-user. It also offers a wide spectrum of functionalities which include in-line data and header comparison, HTTP acceleration, data traffic management, caching user data at the cell site and least cost routing.

The cutting-edge solution for mobile broadband operators enables the owners of the network to monetize the access network infrastructure by providing a host of new applications that help to improve the network economics via backhaul optimization as well as introduce a fresh model for distributing mobile data content

DatE extends unparalleled intelligence to access network via identification of popular content, pre-positioning of the content, and the core ability to link the content preferences of users with a network location. It offers the below mentioned applications that deliver tangible benefits to both users and operators in the way of:

  • On-loading or content pre-positioning at the access network edge
  • Backhaul bandwidth optimization while uploading billing, legal Intercept and content filtering requirements
  • Off-loading user content to other networks, particularly based on the type of traffic

Moreover, DatE brings together the knowledge and content preferences of end-user behavior, delivering a standard level of application innovation in an access network that previously didn’t exist. Since 2011, Altobridge (News - Alert) has taken the DatE solution from merely a concept to commercialization. This is highlighted in Altobridge’s latest rollout of the DatE enabled 3G mobile broadband with the largest integrated communications service provider in Malaysia, Maxis Berhad. The commercial trials for deploying DatE in urban sector are still pending with major  network operators in Europe, the U.S., and North Africa.
