Wind River Embeds Intelligent Network Platform with Qosmos DPI Technologies

February 22, 2013

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

The increasing complexities of today’s networks and the ever rising need for bandwidth have made Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and network intelligence must-have technologies for vendors in telecoms and security.

Qosmos (News - Alert), a provider of DPI and Layer 7 Network Intelligence (NI) technologies, recognizes thousands of communication protocols and metadata attributes, enabling an information layer that gives the most accurate picture of real-time data activity on networks.

The company has just partnered with Wind River (News - Alert) to advance network intelligence through flow classification DPI within the Wind River Intelligent Network Platform. The company has added DPI technologies for accelerated traffic flow classification to give equipment providers instant application- and user-level awareness.

Wind River Intelligent Network Platform enables the development of sophisticated network equipment that can accelerate and secure the flood of traffic for current and future networks. The platform consists of consolidated management and data plane system, and includes software engines that provide fast packet acceleration, pattern matching and other DPI capabilities.

Qosmos CEO, Thibaut Bechetoille (News - Alert), said, “With Wind River and our DPI technologies, users of the Wind River Intelligent Network Platform get application- and user-level awareness without sacrificing, speed, accuracy or performance, accelerating their time to market and providing competitive advantage.”

The integration of Wind River Intelligent Network Platform enables Qosmos to extend existing data plane capabilities by providing additional DPI technologies used to manage traffic flow-classification. This is especially interesting for vendors of cyber security and traffic shaping solutions.

The flow classification DPI technology is delivered as a Software Development Kit (SDK). It features software libraries and tools that easily integrate into new or existing solutions. The IP flow parsing technology also helps developers accelerate the delivery of application-aware solutions.

Key features of Qosmos flow classification DPI technology include the identification of 1,100+ protocols and applications, extraction of 6,000+ protocol and application metadata, real-time traffic analysis at 10, 40, 100 Gbps, and optimized fast path performance based on Intel (News - Alert) Data Plane Development Kit.

“Wind River Intelligent Network Platform helps customers address ongoing network traffic challenges and prepare to scale for growing needs, such as delivering greater network intelligence,” said Paul Senyshyn, senior director of communication platforms at Wind River. “By combining proven DPI technologies from Qosmos with Wind River acceleration technologies, we’re helping customers leverage state-of-the art DPI and reach higher levels of performance.”

Wind River Intelligent Network Platform with embedded Qosmos DPI technologies will be showcased at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert).
