February 16, 2013

Just as important as increasing profits and a high level of customer satisfaction are to businesses throughout the big world, network packet brokers are now looked upon as an essential element of all business operations. The space has taken off as of late, especially as cyber attacks are on the rise.

This week in the industry, Net Optics (News - Alert), a provider of network access and monitoring solutions such as a network tap and a network packet broker, released its new iTap 2 Platform.

Powering an unprecedented level of security while simultaneously driving visibility into every action taking place on the corporate network in addition to reducing the TCO of a variety of Net Optics products, the next-generation offering is ideal for firms within nearly every vertical. It even includes network taps like port aggregators that assist IT admins in being able to quickly analyze and detect problems right away.

"The flood of new devices and applications is creating explosive growth in traffic," said Daniel Aharon, senior director, Product Management, in a statement. "This poses serious challenges to IT departments tasked with safeguarding and managing the network in a cost-efficient manner.”

In other news, Russian telecom solutions provider PROTEI made headlines with the news it would now be leveraging Qosmos’ (News - Alert) ixEngine Network Intelligence technology that would seamlessly integrate key Layer 7 DPI capabilities into its PROTEI DPI platform. In turn, this will enable the business to power an array of both fixed and mobile telecom solutions that will be released on the market in a much shorter time frame.

PROTEI DPI is an intuitive traffic management platform boasting deep packet inspection features that when put in place can bring functions to any firm such as dynamic policy enforcement, traffic charging and value-added traffic manipulation to a much more efficient level.

Vladimir Freinkman, VP Marketing and Business Development at PROTEI said, “We realized that developing and maintaining application-level traffic parsing capability internally necessitated a considerable investment in internal R&D resources, which have detracted from our focus on our core business.By using proven Qosmos ixEngine (News - Alert) software, our development teams can stay focused on bringing new solutions to market much faster.”

Closing out the week, it was revealed that VSS Monitoring, a network packet broker whose robust portfolio has already been selected by three of the four largest service providers U.S., is working tirelessly to assist organizations throughout the globe to realize the important of its NPB offering.

While some of its most vital benefits include the aggregation and correlation of data, the ability to remove data not needed by certain tools, and load balancing among probes, the network packet broker is working side by side with carriers to much easier comply with ever-changing industry mandates as well as ramp up their current investment in 1G tools.
