GoGrid Makes Available a Cloud-based Load-Balancing Solution

January 30, 2013

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Originally developed for the cloud, this latest offering takes advantage of the distributed nature of a cloud environment and does not depend on any propriety hardware. Moreover, it allows customers to implement and scale load-balancing services quickly. GoGrid officials said that to support essential infrastructure, customers can now “dynamically” scale network services.

"If you're deploying applications in the cloud, load balancing is an essential requirement," said Mark Worsey, CIO and executive vice president of technology at GoGrid, adding that during development, the company’s priority was making sure this service is virtualized and programmable like other compute and storage services.

Since the Dynamic Load Balancer easily integrates with other GoGrid services, it provides a flexible and robust infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) environment for customers. Giving an example, company officials said that customers can build a tiered environment with Dynamic Load Balancers managing traffic and with Firewalls, restricting Web servers to traffic only from the Load Balancer.

The solution also enables customers to proactively manage server load across multiple servers. Plus, it provides the benefit of averting server overload during sudden traffic spikes, said company officials.

Additionally, with this solution, businesses can control spending. It also provides the flexibility and on-demand control that are needed to efficiently manage cloud infrastructure.

Shannon Whitley, founder of Whitley Media, said that prior to using GoGrid's Dynamic Load Balancer, “we either struggled to provide a consistent user experience or had to overprovision load-balancing infrastructure to meet demand.”

With GoGrid's Dynamic Load Balancer, the company is now capable of building and managing a true high-availability footprint in the cloud, Whitley said, adding “We manage large volumes of data and now have transparency and control in every aspect of our application.”

Earlier this month, GoGrid announced that Artizone.com, an online grocery shopping site for artisanal, healthy, and small local food vendors, built its eCommerce platform on its cloud infrastructure.
