Given the many changes to enterprise organizations’ network traffic, there is a rising need for network packet brokers (NBPs).
As more companies embrace technologies such as virtualization and cloud computing, network traffic has become faster and more efficient, but increasing traffic from trends like bring your own device (BYOD) and security threats has resulted in a greater need for network visibility into performance tools as well as more network intelligence overall. Meanwhile, applications are becoming more sophisticated, which puts additional strain on businesses.
“Large organizations are attempting to address this evolving set of performance, security, and operational requirements but it is becoming difficult for existing network monitoring and security tools to keep up with these trends and provide adequate coverage,” pointed out Bob Laliberte in this ESG Market Report.
In fact, recent ESG research reveals that enterprise data centers are experiencing dramatic changes in traffic volume and complexity, which make it increasingly difficult to effectively use traditional traffic management and monitoring techniques.
VSS Monitoring, a leader in network packet brokers, allows organizations to make optimal use of their network monitoring and security tools. VSS provides a highly scalable, systems-based approach to packet brokering. With its vMesh architecture, up to 256 appliances can be interconnected to form a fully-redundant, self-healing and scalable packet brokering fabric, providing complete network visibility and data access and greater tool efficiency and ROI.
Further, the company provides advanced network packet brokers for service providers, enterprise and federal government agencies. In fact, it offers three core NPB products, which are as follows:
- vBroker: High capacity packet brokers that provide network-wide visibility, data access and optimization for network monitoring and security tools
- vProtector: Packet brokers with unique capabilities to optimize inline security tools and enable layered security architectures
- vInspector: Appliances that provide real-time, bi-directionally decrypted plain text of SSL flows to security appliances (IPS, Web Proxy, DLP) without impacting application performance or network throughput.
The need for NPBs will escalate as data centers and networks continue to scale, heightening the imperative for them to have the appropriate level of visibility into their network environments, Laliberte continued.
“Intelligent network packet brokers enable organizations to leverage existing network monitoring and security tools to manage larger and more complex environments more effectively and efficient,” he said.
Based on ESG’s most recent research, the market will continue to grow into a “best practices adoption” in large scale data centers and networks.
Laliberte concluded, “As more organizations consolidate data centers and build out increasingly larger and more complex environments, the existing players, including Anue, APCON, Gigamon, NetOptics and VSS Monitoring (News - Alert), will experience considerable opportunity for growth.”
