TMCnet Network Packer Broker Week in Review

November 17, 2012

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

The network packet broker space is erupting like a volcano, with the only difference being instead of molten hot lava the vertical is bursting with news in regards to new solutions and products rapidly making their way to market.

This week in the industry, VSS Monitoring (News - Alert), a company deeply rooted in the network packet broker industry, has been presented with some pretty hefty awards from Fierce Innovation Awards Program, an operator-reviewed awards program from the thought leaders that produce FierceWireless (News - Alert), FierceTelecom and FierceCable.

Achieving not only the "Test and Measurement" award but also the overall award of "Best in Show: Most Efficient/Cost Saver" for its vBroker Series, the company was also recognized as a finalist in the "Device and Network Security" awards category for its vProtector Series.

"FierceMarkets is an outlet of news and analysis for the telecommunications industry, and it's rewarding to receive such high honors in so many areas of its awards program, especially to be recognized by these high-ranking experts in telecom," said Rob Markovich, VSS Monitoring SVP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, in a statement. "These awards recognize and validate the company's heritage in the telecom space. Communications service providers turn to VSS Monitoring to best improve their customer satisfaction assurance infrastructure, while achieving significant savings.

In other news, recent findings about deep packet inspection (DPI) reveal that the market will grow to nearly $2 billion in 2016, which in turn will help the network packet broker space to expand. Essentially, DPI is a technology that assists operators in significantly increasing visibility into every action currently taking place on a network. Additionally, this solution can be leveraged to protect a corporate infrastructure from an array of cyber attacks ranging from viruses and malicious code to SPAM and other threats.

“Better quality of experience (QoE) for mobile data services requires better tools in the network, with more granular visibility into traffic flowing over networks. DPI is becoming a strategic weapon for mobile operators as they seek to control and monetize mobile data traffic, and leading vendors are stepping up to meet evolving operator needs,” said Susan Welsh de Grimaldo, director, Mobile Broadband Opportunity service at Strategy Analytics (News - Alert) in a statement on the latest market research.

Over recent months, this tool has proved to be key for businesses in virtually every industry and its popularity will only increase by the day.

Closing out the week, VSS Monitoring was also in the news due to its recent integration with the Riverbed (News - Alert) Cascade product family. This strategic alliance was formed in order to power much better network analysis capabilities to enterprises. In addition, the network packet broker is now included within the Riverbed Technology Alliance Program, which will enable service providers, government, and enterprise customers alike to ramp up efficiency when closely analyzing every action taking place on a complex network.
