Optical Communications Group (OCG) recently announced that during Superstorm Sandy and in its aftermath, the company's network maintained 100 percent connectivity even as a number of other networks in and around New York City were severely impacted. While businesses and carriers within the area are slowly limping back to normalcy, network operators can depend on OGC to help them restore and improve their communications and back-up systems.
Optical Communications Group is a privately held and specialist fiber optic connectivity provider. In a statement, Brad Ickes, president of OCG, said, "A storm of this magnitude leaves many people without essentials such as power and Internet. At OCG, our first priority is assisting those in need while keeping our network online. OCG has the tools to offer support and is making full use of these resources. Now is the time for us New Yorkers to come together, as we have done before, to get everyone back online, safe and secure, as soon as possible."
Rehabilitation work of communities is already underway and the OCG team is geared up to provide any additional support within the affected areas. Ickes, a former NYPD officer, and his team have been working closely with the local police and rescue officials to aid the first responders and emergency crews within Staten Island and the Rockaways, two areas largely affected by Sandy.
Displaced networks can collaborate with the OCG team to quickly restore connectivity with buildings and customers. Thanks to the diverse and extensive network connections of OCG spanning New York and New Jersey, the company can easily connect both enterprise and carrier networks with transcontinental and domestic networks from the Long Island landing stations.
