Ciena Corp (News
- Alert)., a network specialist, has revealed that FiberLight, a provider of high-performance fiber optic networks, has deployed its network packet brokers solutions in order to build reliable and robust mobile backhaul networks for two major U.S. wireless operators.
“By deploying Ciena's packet networking infrastructure at the vast majority of towers we serve, we are enabling our customers to quickly scale from 100Mb/s to 1Gb/s per tower, eliminate bandwidth restrictions and reduce the potential for data bottlenecks,” said Andrew Stravelli, vice president for Network Engineering at FiberLight (News - Alert), in a statement.
The automation, remote provisioning and reporting features provided by Ciena's management solution allows the company to proactively monitor, maintain and troubleshoot customers' networks as well as allows end-users to leverage the secure, cloud-based portal to confirm that they are meeting SLA requirements.
The new mobile backhaul networks are expected to provide customers with 100Mb/s connectivity at each and every one of its 450 towers with the option to scale seamlessly to one Gb/s.
For FiberLight, Ciena's built-for-speed network packet broker solutions will support two major initiatives. In order to support another major top tier U.S. wireless operator, the company intends to use Ciena solutions in replacing the T1 and microwave towers with a dedicated, fiber-optic backhaul network. The company will also enable FiberLight to gain access to an optimized solution that leverages Ciena's OPn framework principles and it will power ongoing consultation, maintenance and support for this deployment via Ciena Specialist Services.
Moreover, Ciena’s packet networking portfolio helps create scalable networks that are built for speed, agility and assurance, stated Chad Whalen, vice president and general manager for North America Field Operations, Ciena.
Earlier this month, Ciena introduced powerful new software capabilities for its packet portfolio that enable network operators and carrier managed service providers to improve the overall customer experience for Ethernet services, such as mobile backhaul, business services and cloud applications.
