TMCnet Network Packet Broker Week in Review

October 06, 2012

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Network packet brokers (NPBS) are increasingly being implemented within organizations worldwide due to multiple factors, including a much higher level of visibility and efficiency of existing tools. Thus, it makes complete sense that the industry would be booming at this point in time, with news surfacing about the incessant expansion of this space.

This week, findings were released from a recent webinar sponsored by TMCnet and VSS Monitoring (News - Alert), a major player within the network packet broker space, titled, “Network Packet Brokers: A strategic approach for optimizing network & security monitoring infrastructure and ROI.”

Not only can the functionality provided via NPBs secure your network against potential cyber threats and optimize any company’s investment; participants from the event revealed they also liked the following capabilities about the robust offering: 100 percent fail-safe, sends only data of interest, keep your existing 1G tools, capture data once and achieve truly centralized monitoring.

In other news, GL Communications (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of PC-based test, analysis and simulation products and consulting services to the worldwide telecommunications industry, debuted its T1 E1 ATM BERT software. This solution allows for end-to-end verification of a circuit’s reliability, helping to ramp up efficiency and traffic verification across an entire network simultaneously.

“GL’s T1 E1 ATM Bit Error Rate Test (BERT) application permits BER testing across an ATM channel operating over PDH circuits,” said Jagdish Vadalia, senior manager of Product Development for the company. “The application transmits a BERT pattern using the simplest ATM Adaptation Layer, i.e. AAL0. The BERT pattern is inserted in its entirety into the 48 byte payload of the cell. Cells are either ‘BERT payload’ or ‘idle’ cells. Note that ‘cell headers’ and payload can overlap the framing position.”

Closing out the week, PartnerPRO Network from CommScope was unveiled. This service provides the connections between firms needing communications services, enabling consultants, installers, distributors, integration specialists and alliance partners alike to gain a competitive edge in the industry, as well as see much better results in regard to how their overall infrastructure runs.

Further, training will offered via this network, helping companies to remain informed about newly introduced technologies in addition to gaining access to a larger customer base. And those who decide to work with firms that are part of the CommScope PartnerPRO Network can rest assured that they’re teaming with a provider that knows what it takes to succeed in the long term.
