VSS Monitoring Offers Solutions for Access and Visibility in Virtual Environments, Says a VSS Monitoring Inside Source

September 05, 2012

By Daniel Brecht, Contributing Writer

VSS Monitoring (News - Alert), Inc., a company based in Silicon Valley and founded in 2003, is an innovator in network monitoring and security optimization. For years, VSS has served customers around the world, targeting Telco service providers and enterprises, such as those in financial, governments, education and healthcare sectors,  and offering them system-based solutions and many products that have made networks more scalable and reliable, with  greater performance and protection for network monitoring and security.

The company has a family of network packet brokers (NPB) that can maximize the return of investment (ROI) for their customers’ entire network. VSS NPBs offer100-percent network visibility – with link-layer visibility of network traffic across LAN, WAN and Internet boundaries – while reducing CAPEX and OPEX as network size and speeds grow.

According to Tony Zirnoon, the senior director of Global Security Strategy and Enterprise Marketing at VSS Monitoring, who provided inside information on the company through a Q&A session, VSS’s new functionality for visibility across networks has been extended into virtual environments giving enterprises better and more thorough tools to manage their networks as a whole.

When asked about packet broker appliances now able to support virtual network tags (VN-Tag) stripping and filtering, Zirnoon  said VSS tools deliver full visibility and management of packets across Cisco (News - Alert) Nexus network infrastructures as well as of packets across physical and virtual environments. This capability in the virtual environment makes tools offered by VSS Monitoring unique.

Concerning network switching and the entire network intelligence ecosystem of analytics that takes place within virtualized environments, Zirnoon mentioned the most significant issues around optimizing network performance and security in virtual environments are access and visibility; essentially, as virtual environments get more and more exploited, it is essential for system administrators to have access to more information on how data are used in the virtual segments of a network and not only in physical ones.

When embracing virtual environments, there are a set of challenges in monitoring virtual machine (VM)-based traffic. One challenge is the use of proprietary tags by some vendors, tags that are not often understood by network intelligence tools.  VSS Monitoring solutions are able to filter and strip off these tags allowing visibility by all tools.

VSS Monitoring says that a systems-approach for optimized monitoring and security are extremely important in virtual environments; monitoring ensures quality of service and security tools aid to protect data.

As Zirnoon revealed, the only vendor today that offers tools for analysis, security and monitoring for virtual environments is VSS Monitoring. Not only is the company meeting customers’ visibility and monitoring needs, they also are addressing customers’ network analysis and security needs too.

What organizations can expect from VSS Monitoring are solutions to offload virtual traffic, monitoring and network tools as well as analytical and security tools to simplify operational complexity; as well, as access points for maximized visibility, scalability and savings, said Zirnoon.

VSS Monitoring is able to provide clients a reliable network intelligence infrastructure; featuring packet optimization to filter traffic based on Virtual Interface IDs and strip VN-Tags. Unique in the Network Intelligence Optimization world, it offers solutions that can give enterprises better management of data in larger sections of their networks, physical or virtual.
