AFP Surges Ahead with NTT Communications' High Performing Network and Security Services

August 29, 2012

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

For more than two decades, NTT (News - Alert) Communications has been instrumental in helping Agence France-Presse (AFP), an international news agency, bring news to a global audience. Thanks to its ability to provide a quality-based responsive service, NTT Communications (News - Alert) has been widely successful in addressing the growing demands of AFP's rapidly expanding flow of multimedia-rich content, via its low-latency, high speed network.

NTT Communications is a member of the NTT Group, and is a major Fortune Global 500 telecommunications group.

"The evolution of multimedia rich content has generated an increasingly high flow of traffic for us. NTT Communications guarantees us commitment, quality, and support,” said Jean-Pierre Scagnelli, Infrastructure and Engineering Manager at AFP, explaining the reasons for choosing and staying with NTT Communications. “They fully meet our expectations and really stand out from their competitors with a professional approach at all times."

Over the last few years, AFP has been focussed on incorporating its customer’s images and videos onto the AFP network. The result is that at present, AFP has a database of more than eight million archived photographs, with an additional 2,000 being created on a daily basis.

Additionally, AFP has 30 production units across France and the globe which create around 500 news videos on a monthly basis. This prompted the need for a robust infrastructure which could support a sufficient flow rate as well as high availability, because multimedia consumes a lot of bandwidth and has to stream through the network.

By delivering a responsive network, NTT Communications has made it possible for AFP to run its business seamlessly while passing data between the various sites in Asia with ease.

NTT Communications has enabled AFP connect with its Asian network hub in Hong Kong, and provided the company with an Ethernet interconnect solution from its sites to the Hong Kong-based central site. To ensure that AFP benefits from a single routing solution, NTT Communications has also created its network to support a balanced flow while addressing the rapid growth in multimedia.

Having worked closely for more than a decade, AFP is confident about not only the service offerings of NTT Communications, but its affordable pricing structure. It has thus renewed its contract time and again with the company.
